Even though the Lego Technic Compact Excavator is supposed to be released in 2010 the first review and build of the model has been published.

Ryan, a member of the LOWLUG message board has posted his review to TechBricks.

The review contains a few photos but sadly they're a bit dark and blurred, but give a good indication of how the model is built.

The box comes with 2 manuals for both the main A model - the mini digger and also the B model - the log handler.  This is unusual for Lego as they've tended to publish the B model instructions on their website.

The model contains a number of new parts:-

• 20 Tooth bevelled gear - with a hole rather than an axle fitting hole.  This means the gear "free wheels"
• 4 length axle with a stop at one end
• 3 Length axle with stop
• 3 Length pins with axle holes
• New Body panel

The build starts off with the building of the undercarriage - Ryan finds this rather straight forward.  It appears the track treads "free wheel" and aren't powered in any way.  The rest of the model is then assembled on the base.

There's 2 gears / knobs at the back of the model that allow it to function.  The first raises and lowers the boom, the other controls the stick and bucket.

The model looks like a good set to obtain parts.  The tracks are very difficult to find new these days as it's a while since they've been part of a set in any numbers.  There's also a wide selection of gears.
