The Lego Technic Motorized Bulldozer was one of the bigger sets for 2008 with 1,384 parts.  As such it would have needed a large manual.  Instead Lego devided it in 3.

Pages 10 to 15

Manual 1 covers the main structure and runs to 60 pages - Lego have slightly cheated as the step number on page 61 is only 31 - after each main section  they restart at 1!

The build starts off by building the back half of the bulldozer.  The first 10 pages of the manual are the most difficult and complicated Lego I've ever build.  The first 19 steps takes 30 minutes!

Pages 15 to 18

Build Manual 1 runs as follows

• Front of the bull dozer containing one of the XL motors which will drive the left hand track
• Rear of the bull dozer containing one of the XL motors which will drive the right hand track
• Joining the two halfs together
• Building the 6 cylinder engine block
• Building the bottom rollers for the tracks

Pages 10 to 23

On models I've build in the past the item is normally semetrical length ways.  This is the first models I've build thats semetrical across the middle.  The motors to drive the tracks are not side by side - one is at each end of the model.

So far it's taken about 4 hours to build, and I lost track of how many mistakes I made.  3 Times I had to go back more than 5 steps to find where I'd gone wrong.

I bought the Lego Technic Motorized Bulldzer in August 2008 but it's taken me now to attempt the build.  My last build was the Lego Technic Mobile Crane and must admit I found it too complicated and I was making too many mistakes.  Finally I became fed up of it sitting in the cupboard so I decided to finally build it.

I bought the model via Amazon UK for £97.50, and it dually arrived in a few days.  Unfortunatly the box was very brused having been packaged in nothing more than a plastic bag.  No parts appear to be missing so fingers crossed.

The Box

For such a large box there's a large amount of "free" air inside it.  I'm not sure why Lego insist on using such large boxes other than pure marketing.  In this day and age of reducing packaging this seems something Lego should learn.  I bought the bulldozer online - the size of the box doesn't mater!

The box gives a good idea of the functions of the model - left and right tracks, raise and lower the blade, raise a lower the ripper.  The back of the box shows an alternative model - not exactly sure what it is yet though.

Included in the set is the new Lego Technic Power Functions remote control kit.  The remote control kit is made up of one controler, one battery box, 2 receivers, 2 XL motors and 2 M Motors.

Opening the cover on the box revelas a good idea of how each function work and how to use the remote control.

At this stage I'm still wondering how "remote" the control is - if it's infra red remote control (like a TV remote) it will mean you'll have to be able to see the model to control it.  If it's radio waves like a traditional remote control you won't have to be able to see the model.  I have visions of attaching a small wireless camera to the drivers seat and driving it round.

Box Opening

On opening the box I find 29 packets and 3 manuals.  There appears to be two sets of 6 packets - so these are either one set per side, or one set per end.  Of the manuals there doesn't appear to be one for the alternative model.

During previous builds of Lego Technic sets I've tried various methods of building -

• open all the bags in to one box,
• open the bags but keep the parts in the bags untill needed
• empty all the bags in to as many boxes as I can find.

For this model I tried to find as many small boxes as possibe - in this case an Ikea set of small drawers proved ideal.
